Summary: The app does not collect personal information for advertising purposes. Anonymous usage data is collected to improve the experience. Pro users may optionally sign in with Google to back up their data privately.
1. Information We Collect
Bill Scanner collects the following types of data:
- Anonymous usage data: App open frequency, number of bill scans, features used. All data is anonymized and not linked to personal identity.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, app version. Does not include IMEI or phone number.
- Crash data (Crashlytics): Technical information when the app encounters errors, helping us fix bugs faster.
- Google Account info (Pro feature only): If you choose to use the optional "Google Drive Backup" feature (available to Pro subscribers), we access your basic Google account email for display purposes only, through Google Sign-In.
We do NOT collect on our own servers: Name, phone number, national ID, bank account information, bill contents, or bill photos. This data stays on your device or in your own private Google Drive storage (see Section 2).
2. Data Stored on Device and Google Drive (Pro Backup)
All personal data (bill history, bank account information for QR generation, budget, photos) is stored locally on your device by default and is not sent to any of our servers.
Optional Pro Feature — Google Drive Backup:
Pro subscribers may choose to sign in with their Google Account to back up their data (bill history, photos, settings) to a private, hidden storage area called Google Drive's "App Data Folder" (drive.appdata scope).
- This backup is stored in your own Google Drive account, not on our servers.
- The App Data Folder is only accessible by the Bill Scanner app — it does not appear in your regular Google Drive files and cannot be accessed by us, by Google staff, or by any other app.
- This feature allows you to restore your data when you reinstall the app or switch to a new device.
- You can disable this feature at any time by signing out within the app (see Section 5).
- When you uninstall the app without backup, or never enable this feature, all your data is deleted permanently.
3. Third-Party API Usage
When scanning a bill, the image is sent to:
- Google Gemini AI — processes text recognition in images. Images are processed and not stored long-term per Google's policy.
- VietQR API — generates payment QR codes. Only receives the account number and amount you provide.
- Google Drive API (Pro feature only, with your explicit sign-in consent) — stores your encrypted backup file in your own private App Data Folder.
4. Analytics Tools
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to:
- Track user count and usage frequency (anonymously)
- Detect and fix technical errors
- Improve user experience
Analytics data is processed by Google under Google's Privacy Policy.
5. Your Rights — Data Deletion
You have the right to:
- Delete all local data by uninstalling the app.
- Delete your Google Drive backup: Open the app → go to the Account tab → tap Google Drive → tap "🗑️ Delete all data from Google Drive" → confirm. This immediately and permanently deletes your backup data from the App Data Folder and signs you out of Bill Scanner. This does not affect your Google Account itself.
- Export your bill history via the "Export backup" feature in the app before deleting.
- Request support for any data-related question by contacting us (see Section 9).

6. Security
Bank account information you enter in the app is only used to generate VietQR codes. By default it is stored locally on your device. If you enable Pro Google Drive Backup, this data is stored encrypted within your own private Google Drive App Data Folder, accessible only via your authenticated Google account and our app — we have no separate access to it.
7. Children
The app is not directed at users under 13 years of age and does not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Policy Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Important changes will be announced via app updates. The last update date is always displayed at the top of this page.
